"Creating healthy environment for a healthy future"
INTRODUCTION:
" Water is a strange natural resource. It can unite a community as easily as it can divide it".
Water is considered the most miraculous, holy, supernatural and divine, that it has been given the name "Thirtha". The presence and absence of water clearly determine the culture and growth of a community. With the growth of economy and subsequent up gradation of the very patterns of life, there is a corresponding increase in demand for water from different sectors.
Water is also one of the most important elements on earth. Every living being needs water for its survival. Without water, plants, animals, microbes - everything will perish. Population growth - coupled with industrialization and urbanization has resulted in an increasing demand for water thus leading to water crisis and serious consequences on the environment. A rapid industrialization has lead to the industrial effluents and sewage, resulting in water pollution, which lead to water crisis in India and all over the world.
Challenges Before Us
With an average growth rate of 6% over the past decade, the Indian economy has proven itself to be one of the fastest growing in the world. The tremendous economic growth also poses serious challenges on the environment front. In recent times, there is an increased awareness and focus on maintaining the environmental balance, without jeopardizing the long-term developmental goals. Proactive and pragmatic environmental policies and legislations are the most important components in the environmental management programme for any country.
